We’re baaaaaaack!

Hey all, great news. We have come to an amicable resolution with Redbox, and we are pleased to reintroduce app again. Our app is back in the app store. Redbox has changed their API, so you’ll notice that the original app crashes now. We have just released an updated version that works with the new Redbox API. For those that have purchased the Pro version you can upgrade to the newest pro version for free.

Free version (ad supported):
http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=302957268&mt=8&s=143441

Pro version (rent from within app):
http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=306217360&mt=8&s=143441

Also, some new features:

- movie list sorting

- machine names (Machine A, B. c, etc.) in the kiosk listing and map view

- checkout is now handled as a webpage within the app instead of closing the app. Also, new webpage layout from redbox makes the checkout process easier

- Make sure set your redbox email address in the settings, this will autopopulate on the redbox login page–one less thing to type when renting a movie.

Also, we are actively working on new features for the 3.0 update, including much faster map loading with the updated maps in 3.0 SDK

I just looked in iTunes and neither of my Pro or lite versions are saying they need to be updated. When I click on either link you provide it asks for me to repurchase the application. It looks like you changed the name of your company so the app is changed so we can’t update it. How am I supposed to update it for free?

maybe you didn’t change the name…I just don’t remember the blue nile labs. anyhow, please tell me how to upgrade.

Well I was able to update to the free version, but the paid version still looks like it wants me to pay more.

Actually you can click on the link to purchase the app and you’ll receive a popup that says since you have already purchased it prior, you will not be charged. (I tested it out myself and it worked fine).

If you want to wait, though, until iTunes recognizes it as an update you can do that too. Since it was just approved this morning, it will probably take a couple days for it to percolate thru the iTunes infrastructure and appear as an update in your itunes.

I just tried it and it says I will be charged. I guess I’ll watch and wait. Oh and I totally forgot….

WELCOME BACK. I’M VERY EXCITED. AND CONGRATS!!

Just as a note–itunes automatcially maps updates of installed versions of the app despite any naming changes. The key is actually a bundle identifier set within the app package that we upload to itunes. As long as that stays the same, no matter what we change in the iTunes store front, the update will still make it’s way to the correct app on your device. Creating a new bundle identifier is actually a pretty big deal, and iTunes does not accept an update to an app when the bundle identifier for the update is different than the current version. So rest assured, apple has the update process all figured out :-)

hotrod, thanks. I still can’t elaborate too much about the agreement between us and redbox, but fortunately we were able to release the app back into the app store unchanged. We’re very excited to be back, and have lots of cool new ideas that you will be seeing in the very immediate future.

Great. I can’t wait to use it this Holiday weekend. I’m so glad you guys made it back….I was beginning to think the app was gone for good.

Thanks Hassan. Glad to see you and Redbox worked it out.

What happened to the “lite” version? It’s no longer on itunes. Also noticed that I can no longer check the inventory for my location. The app just closes. I’ve not heard very much positive with your pro version. It doesn’t include that information in the details.

The lite version was crashing due to some errors with the ads that are displayed. We have pulled the lite version because of the errors and even allowed people to download the pro version for free when the errors were discovered. We have uploaded a fixed lite version to iTunes and it is currently in review and should be availe from the app store shortly.

      We apologize for the inconvenience.

    Hi Hassan,
Just downloaded you latest version–1.2.2.1 The one thing I noticed is the ads load much quicker. I still found the problem with this version. When you pick a movie (from the movie listing) and try to use the “Find” feature to find the machine–the application just closes/crashes. I think It should be tied to your inventory feature.

    Hi Hassan,
Emailed you the crash logs. Cheers. Glenn
