Updated build – Apple twists our arm

Ok Apple! Have it your way! Our app was rejected today because we performed an in-app purchase, which apparently is forbidden. So what we did was update the full version of the app to forward you to redbox’s website to complete the credit card processing. All the functionality of the app is still present, it is just a little “clunkier” than I would prefer.

Man, that sucks! I’ve been silently watching this in very high anticipation. I just missed the Beta invites, but I just wanted to say thanks for putting in all this work. I’ll be on of the first to download it as soon as the app store approves it!

Also following the progress. I can only imagine the frustration! So has it been resubmitted & do you think it will take less time t approve since it’s gone through the process already? Maybe next week in store? :)

Yeah we resubmitted the day it was rejected–it was quite a simple change to make. I really have no idea what goes on behind the doors at 1 Infinite Loop in Cupertino, it’s like Willy Wonka’s Chocolate factory. It would be nice if the app approval went faster this time since they already had a chance to work with it–but it’s anybody’s guess. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that by this time next week we’ll be in the app store, but nothing is for sure.

Actually I got a message that apple is looking at it right now. They just sent us a note that they still cannot accept the free version because they do not like the fact that the free version cannot see pending promo codes. We just disabled pending promo codes from the server–so they are not showing up anymore, but apple may still decide to put the free version through another app review (so possibly add one more week for that one).

Meanwhile, keep your fingers crossed on the pro version, we will probably know by monday (maybe even tomorrow) if it will be approved.

Yup–the free version just got rejected, and I just resubmitted, add one more week for that one. hopefully we have better luck with the pro version.

That is semi good news. What are the difference between the 2 versions and what is the price for the Pro? I can’t wait to buy it. Once approved to you have an idea how long it it takes to be added to the store? Fingers crossed on approval!

The pro version will allow you to rent movies directly from the app (with a link to Redbox), while the free version will allow you to find a movie, but not reserve it. The pro version will also allow you to see new promo codes as soon as they are submitted, while the free version will not show them until they are approved. Also, the free version contains ads, the pro does not.

In future versions of the pro version we will be adding a movie queue feature (think Netflix), promo code tracking (to keep track of the promo codes you have already used, or have not used yet), and more.

We are going to be selling the pro version for $1.99 for awhile, and then change it to $2.99 or $3.99 as we add new features. Of course, all updates will be free.

Once Apple approves the app it should go into the App Store immediately.

Hopefully we are very close to the release.

That is so awesome. I know how hard you guys have worked on this so I hope you get all the recognition possible for such a useful App.

This is why Google’s Android is a superior platform than Apple’s i-phone. Hopefully phones like the G1 win out in the end. Google will actually let you have control over your phone and you don’t have to sign your life away as a developer. They are also a lot less restrictive when it comes to publishing apps in their market.

    Umm…Ok

Back to the Iphone. Hope they give you an answer soon :)
