Redbox takes down our app :-(

Sad news folks, today Redbox has requested we stop distributing our iPhone application. We are working with Redbox to come to an amicable resolution so that a Redbox iPhone app will be available in some form.

For more details: view our post on Inside Redbox:

Please make your voices heard! If you want a Redbox iPhone application send an email to: questions@redbox.com or better yet, call Redbox support 1.866.REDBOX3  and ask them for an iPhone application.

That sucks. I fired off an email this am. I’m assuming those of us that purchased the application will still be able to use it, correct?

Keep us posted. If I was a betting man, I would say they probably did not like the free rental code sharing built into the application, but I don’t know.

    Good luck.

Thanks! Yes the pro version of the app will continue to work; however, until this matter is resolved we will not be able to post any bug fixes in iTunes.

Why would they want you distributing free codes like that? They are a business trying to make money and you’re trying to give away their product for free. No surprise they would shut this down.

    @Jimmy Boo

BTW, I do like the ability to reserve that way though.

Jimmy, I’m not really at liberty to talk too much about the reasons why redbox removed the app as we are in talks with their lawyers now. But I can say that strangely enough the free codes do not seem to be the reason. (I would have thought that myself).

    @ Hassan

That’s very interesting Hassan. You know I’ve known about inside redbox’s code system for a long time, but not until I could access it sooooo easily on my iPhone, did I ever use any of the codes. It works well.

I do hope your app comes back. I think it has awesome potential.

I did get an email back from Redbox…not much info in it…
    “Hello,

I have the pro version and it does not work anymore. I open the app and it searches for the movies then closes. Need a fix please. Does this have anything to do with the redbox freeze? If there is no resolution, I will expect a refund.
    Thanks

I bought the pro version also and it no longer works. The app crashes just as Colby said….searches for movies then closes. Please do something for those of us who actually purchased this app.

I cannot go into specifics because we are still in talks with Redbox, but we are aware of this issue and we are working on it.

    We really appreciate your patience!

I have the same problem I open the app and it searches for the movies then closes. I shot off an email to Redbox and I hope they let you bring it back into the app store. they don’t care about the codes because every time someone takes out a movie 2 out of 5 forget to bring it back. Even with a code after the first free day it starts charging you. As far as a Refund don’t worry about it just do your best to fight back and see if you can get it back on. you made a great app and sold it at a great price you should not be punished for that.
