Redbox takes down our app :-(

Sad news folks, today Redbox has requested we stop distributing our iPhone application. We are working with Redbox to come to an amicable resolution so that a Redbox iPhone app will be available in some form.

For more details: view our post on Inside Redbox:

Please make your voices heard! If you want a Redbox iPhone application send an email to: questions@redbox.com or better yet, call Redbox support 1.866.REDBOX3  and ask them for an iPhone application.

Looking into “Colorado Springs” bug

Saw the review comment around not working in Colorado Springs. I’m looking into it.

Just a note if people are experiencing issues with the app not working, please do post to our forum, and we’ll check it out.

thanks!

Purchase from app is coming soon…

Just a note, for those wanting to be able to purchase a movie once you have found it from the Inside Redbox Mobile app, this capability is coming very shortly. We submitted the lite and pro versions of the Inside Redbox Mobile app at the same time. The lite version was approved first. The pro vesion will include the ability to reserve a movie from the app, however, it is taking longer for apple to perform the app review.  So sit tight, the app will continue to get better :-)

updated build: remove rent button in free version

Another week, another rejection. Apple rejected the free version because it contained  a rent button that opened up our upsell page. According to apple we cannot advertise functionality that is not present in our application. We’ve updated the build and resubmitted our free version to apple. Still haven’t had any word on our paid version, hopefully that has not slipped in between the cracks.

Updated build – Apple twists our arm

Ok Apple! Have it your way! Our app was rejected today because we performed an in-app purchase, which apparently is forbidden. So what we did was update the full version of the app to forward you to redbox’s website to complete the credit card processing. All the functionality of the app is still present, it is just a little “clunkier” than I would prefer.

Big setback from app store approval

Looks like we ran into a big snag with Apple. They do not allow apps to perform purchases. Which means that they are going to reject our app since we gather credit card info to reserve a movie at a redbox kiosk. They did say that we can direct the user to a web page to complete a purchase–which is probably what we’ll have to end up doing. But this really sucks in terms of usability. It’s a very sad day…

Lite version rejected, new build submitted

The lite version of the app was rejected because Apple didn’t like the way we worded to upgrade messages, as well as the app crashing when there was no internet connection. I’ve fixed all these issues and posted a new build. We have also resubmitted the lite version binaries to apple with these fixes. Hopefully all’s good now.

D’Oh! Updated for Common app rejection bugs

A new build has been posted on the beta test page. I happened to be perusing an iPhone developer forum looking at the most common reasons for app rejection, and it looks like we made a couple mistakes:

  • We are not deselecting selected table cells
  • We are not displaying a warning message when there is no internet connection

I have just rejected our binaries and posted some new ones with these issues fixed, so hopefully I have prevented a looming app rejection; however, back to the end of the line for the app review.
