Crash Reports Finally Coming In…

So with the update of iTunes 8.2, comes iPhone crash reports. In the unfortunate event that the Inside Redbox App crashes on you, your crash report will automatcially be sent to us so we can diagnose the problem and fix in a future release. It seems that 51% of the crashes in the reports that I’m seeing right now do have a workaround. The issue is with the tabs. In version 1.0 there were 6 tabs whose layout you could customize. In version 1.0.1 there are now just 4 tabs. For those that customized the layout of the tabs, there is a bug in the app that will cause the app to crash upon launch. There is a workaround for this bug. Uninstall the app and then reinstall the app–this will clear the tab layout settings. In the meantime I will diligently address this issue in a future version of the app along with other crashing issues that I recieve in the crash reports.

Thanks for your patience while we work to improve our app!

We’re baaaaaaack!

Hey all, great news. We have come to an amicable resolution with Redbox, and we are pleased to reintroduce app again. Our app is back in the app store. Redbox has changed their API, so you’ll notice that the original app crashes now. We have just released an updated version that works with the new Redbox API. For those that have purchased the Pro version you can upgrade to the newest pro version for free.

Free version (ad supported):
http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=302957268&mt=8&s=143441

Pro version (rent from within app):
http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=306217360&mt=8&s=143441

Also, some new features:

- movie list sorting

- machine names (Machine A, B. c, etc.) in the kiosk listing and map view

- checkout is now handled as a webpage within the app instead of closing the app. Also, new webpage layout from redbox makes the checkout process easier

- Make sure set your redbox email address in the settings, this will autopopulate on the redbox login page–one less thing to type when renting a movie.

Also, we are actively working on new features for the 3.0 update, including much faster map loading with the updated maps in 3.0 SDK

Purchase from app is coming soon…

Just a note, for those wanting to be able to purchase a movie once you have found it from the Inside Redbox Mobile app, this capability is coming very shortly. We submitted the lite and pro versions of the Inside Redbox Mobile app at the same time. The lite version was approved first. The pro vesion will include the ability to reserve a movie from the app, however, it is taking longer for apple to perform the app review.  So sit tight, the app will continue to get better :-)

updated build: remove rent button in free version

Another week, another rejection. Apple rejected the free version because it contained  a rent button that opened up our upsell page. According to apple we cannot advertise functionality that is not present in our application. We’ve updated the build and resubmitted our free version to apple. Still haven’t had any word on our paid version, hopefully that has not slipped in between the cracks.

Updated build – Apple twists our arm

Ok Apple! Have it your way! Our app was rejected today because we performed an in-app purchase, which apparently is forbidden. So what we did was update the full version of the app to forward you to redbox’s website to complete the credit card processing. All the functionality of the app is still present, it is just a little “clunkier” than I would prefer.

Big setback from app store approval

Looks like we ran into a big snag with Apple. They do not allow apps to perform purchases. Which means that they are going to reject our app since we gather credit card info to reserve a movie at a redbox kiosk. They did say that we can direct the user to a web page to complete a purchase–which is probably what we’ll have to end up doing. But this really sucks in terms of usability. It’s a very sad day…
